Hydra Farming outside of Augury.
Lately it seems that with the past recent updates, they have been hell bent on crippling 55 monks in some way or another.
First the mobs fleeing from areas of damage effects and now they just like to run away for the hell of it. :[ 55 farming with Monks has become relatively slow.
Now this spot to farm is one of the best that I know of mainly for convenience and the fact that you can pull in 5k easily per run after clearing the area. Not counting any gold weapon drops or chests you get into. :]
I decided to try it oldschool with my original 55 character which is my 55 necro. And I must say I was far more pleased with this character than my monk.
Here's the build which I assume most people would know by now.
Equipment: -50HP Cesta, and a Totem Axe. (another 20% enchants and +5 energy weapon will do)
Full scar patterns. Just buy it from LA, armor rating doesn't matter, it's the energy you're after.
And of course all superior runes. Make sure you have one of each and then just double up the last one. The health penalty stacks.
Attributes:
8 Healing
9 Protection
16 Curses (+3)
8 Soul Reaping (+3)
Skills:
Prot Spirit
Healing Breeze
Insidious Parasite
Spiteful Spirit {E}
Desecrate Enchantments
Essence Bond
Mending
Balthazar's Spirit
Just keep up enchants, cast prot spirit, then use SS on the enemy that's hitting you with melee. Then cast Desecrate Enchants to deal some more damage, then you have enough time to cast SS again once it recharges to finish the mob off. It works faster than a 55 monk because of the quick recharge of the main damage spell.
Oh and they'll cast meteor when they first spot you. This knocks you down and interrupts whatever you were doing. They will also cast meteor sometmes during combat at random intervals. It really isn't much of a bother, just try to time things correctly and you'll be fine.
Enjoy.

No they don't run away.
I think its mainly melee attackers that run away.

Ok, i wasn't aware they were melee fighters.
I have farmed them on my warrior and never had one run away, although maybe thats because of the fact that i am dealing single damage rather than AOE damage.
Never tried on my monk, i find the hydra area never drops good golds.
Sure you get them, with dye etc, but anything decent in golds, usually has poor stats.
Just my observations

I've farmed these with ranger, mesmer, elementalist, warrior, monk and my necro so far with many of the builds
that are posted up on these forums and by far the fastest way to do it is with a 55 soj monk, even now after all
this time it's still the fastest most fun way of doing it and probably the easiest still too as we all know how to 55 .
I've so far not got a ritualist, assasin, dervish or a paragon into the desert area as i've been onto other things but
im guessing that those will be effective but probably slower than a 55 soj killer so until i try it i wont go on about it...
